So yesterday I restarted my computer for some software updates, and since it h ad been quite some time since I had turned off my computer for good or restarting it, there was a Windows update waiting.

It seemed to install just fine, but when it went to restart after, it got stuck on the windows login screen, but without any option to log in. It would let me move my mouse and pick up on my keyboard, but there was no where to select a user and type a password. My only options were keyboard language, network, ease of access and power.

I let it sit there for about 10 minutes, figuring that it was just stuck,before restarting it again. Nothing, same as before. I tried restarting 5 or so more times, still the same. So I could get into Windows in safe mode. I restarted normally and it got stuck again. I figured the update screwed something up and wanted to try restoring to a previous state, only there were no previous states, since it hadn't been setup for that apparently.

I tried startup repair and it said that it couldn't find any issues to fix. I had looked around after people with the same problems, but none of their solutions worked. So, I figured that there wasn't anything else to do than to try and just "reset" windows by letting it reinstall itself while keeping all my personal files. Now that it has done that, I'm still having the same issue. It gets stuck on the login screen, but with no way of logging in. Does anyone have any idea as to what would be causing this?

I'd have thought that since I essentially reinstalled windows, any problem should be fixed. In having to write this on my phone as I don't have any other computer. My computer is a desktop, and I have tried restarting with no ethernet out USB cables in it, but it didn't change anything. Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I can imagine the inconvenience you have experienced. I will definitely help you with this. As you have already tried with many troubleshooting steps with no avail, I would suggest you to upgrade your system using an ISO and media creation tool and check if it helps you in resolving the issue.
